3E Company®, the leading provider of Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) compliance and information management services, today announced that Sumitomo Chemical Co., Ltd., a leading Japanese chemical company, has licensed 3E’s Ariel ADM-EHSAP loading tool and Ariel content modules for SAP EH&S. Sumitomo Chemical plans to use the tool and content with its SAP EH&S platform as the foundation for various EH&S applications, including global MSDS authoring and Responsible Care program management.
Sumitomo Chemical has adopted the Ariel ADM-EHSAP regulatory data loading and management tool as well as a number of regulatory content modules, including Ariel Product Safety Data and Ariel Transportation of Dangerous Goods Data. The Company has also adopted the Ariel Multilingual Phrase Library for SAP EH&S and Ariel Expert Rules, which work together to simplify the creation and authoring of MSDSs, labels, and other documents for country-specific regulations in proper local languages. 3E’s Ariel Global Research Team will also be providing document templates for Sumitomo’s SAP EH&S requirements. Information & Telecommunication Systems of Hitachi, Ltd., a leading Tokyo-based IT solutions provider, served as the SAP EH&S implementation consultant on the project.
Sumitomo Chemical evaluated a number of regulatory data solutions and selected 3E Company’s award-winning Ariel content modules because of its vast scope and long-standing reputation for accuracy. Sumitomo Chemical’s implementation of the Ariel SAP EH&S solution builds upon the company’s success with 3E’s Ariel WebInsight web-based regulatory data reference tool. The continued use of WebInsight along with the integration of Ariel content into SAP EH&S will provide Sumitomo Chemical with a powerful combination of best-in-class EH&S regulatory resources to bolster its Responsible Care program and help it reliably produce MSDSs for countries where it has limited local knowledge.
“This is the first major implementation of regulatory content and rules into SAP EH&S for the Japanese chemical industry,” said Alfred Voskian, from 3E Company’s European and Asia Business Development group. “3E Company is proud to have been chosen to support this venture and we look forward to continuing our long and productive relationship with Sumitomo Chemical.”
“We have been using Ariel WebInsight for more than ten years and have been quite impressed with the data coverage, scope, and quality. We chose to build upon this and expand our use of Ariel content into SAP EH&S since we believe it offers the most comprehensive and accurate chemical regulatory content available today,” said Masaharu Kimura, Manager Responsible Care Office, Sumitomo Chemical. “We have a long relationship with 3E Company and we are confident that the Company is committed to understanding and meeting the needs of global companies like ours.”
3E Company’s own Ariel Global Research Team uses documented best practice methodology and direct relationships with regulatory bodies across the globe to gather, refine and maintain Ariel data. The team tracks changes to legislation already covered in Ariel products and services and identifies new legislation that enhances the Ariel global regulatory database. 3E Company’s content offering is constantly growing, but currently contains more than 700 complete regulatory lists covering nearly 4,000 data elements spanning more than 75 countries around the world.
