On 20 March 2020 the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) added 70 products as disinfectants for use against the COVID-19 coronavirus.

Verisk 3E Review

The EPA added 70 products to List N: Disinfectants for Use Against SARS-CoV-2. This list collects products that can be effectively used against SARS-CoV-2 (the novel coronavirus which causes COVID-19). The EPA has collected all relevant products and the list can be searched by EPA registration numbers. While the list is not an endorsement of the product by the EPA, inclusion does mean that the disinfectants meet the criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2. The EPA is moving to approve claims that hand sanitizer brands provide viral pathogen resistance as quickly as possible, approving many requests within 14 days.

The EPA is also allowing manufacturers to obtain certain inert ingredients such as glucose without checking with the agency for approval. These inert ingredients must be designated as "commodity inert ingredients" for the relaxation of regulations to apply.

Verisk 3E Analysis

Businesses in the production of hand sanitizer in the United States, or lateral production industries, should confirm whether their hand sanitizer ingredients can now be purchased and used without EPA approval.

Free SDS Access for COVID-19 Approved Cleaning Products

As a public service to help companies keep their employees, families and communities safe during the global pandemic, Verisk 3E is offering free online access to Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) for cleaning products approved for use against COVID-19.

The US EPA and CDC and Health Canada have both published lists of products with emerging viral pathogens and human coronavirus claims. We have collected SDSs for many of these products and made them available to you via our 3E Protect SDS and chemical compliance management platform.

To make it easy for you to access chemical safety data as you take measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19, you are invited to search, view, print and download SDSs for agency approved cleaning products free of charge.
